Shoplifters
One thing I have learnt about this job is that when something happens, no matter how big or small, everyone finds out about it. Even those who do not work here, or the other shop. I suppose that is what happens with family businesses though. Here I am, walking into one business and working more hours then family members are, and then working in their other place, which is this one, and about to get more hours. My boss is married to my other boss. my first boss’s sister works for her sister, and her brother in law. Which means all up that is three businesses right there.
The thing I find most interesting though, is that on Saturday, an idiot walked in and tried to pay for two 700ml bottles of Black Douglas, it didn’t go through as he didnt have enough money on his card, but he still wanted me to try and put it through. I did twice, to no avail. Now before he tried to pay for it, One of our regulars had seen him put a third bottle of Black Douglas down his jumper. He refused to open his jumper and he wouldnt come to the registers. He was standing on the other side near my laptop. I told him like 4 times to come around to the correct side. I guess if he moved from where he was the bottles would fall out, anyways, he asked if we had anything cheaper, And i knew we did. But i sent him to the back of the shop to look for something as i was “serving” customers. While he was down there, I rang the second boss. Who came over. He had no Idea why I wanted him over, So once walked the 5 meters or so, I told him. He went and saw this guy. Not only did he find the bottle of Black Douglas, he also found two bottles of Midori. another Black Douglas and Wild Turkey. This retard had tried to steal more then $200 of spirits. So what did this guy learn from this experience? He learnt a few things, the main one being, when you stuff a square shaped bottle down your top, Other people can see the outline. And that no matter how much you try and fool someone, we are not stupid.
The main reason I think he tried to steal so much, was because Im a girl. Like OMGZ im soooo going to be busy filing my nails or looking into a mirror asking does my butt look fat in these pants, instead of wanting to jump the counter and knock him around a bit. Funnily enough, The boss didnt call the cops. he just told the guy to never return and if he did we would then call the cops. If it were me, I woulda belted the shit out of him, and then called the cops.
Now something else about this job that shits me is that there is a guy who works at night time on certain nights. and for the past two shifts I have done, and he has had to work after me, he either hasnt shown up, or has shown up halfway through his shift. One thing that bugs me is people who can not be punctual. I dont mind working extra, because it means more money for me, but what would happen if i wanted to go out? And the main reason why he works the night shift and I work the day is because the boss has said so many times its engraved into my retina’s that he does not want a girl working at night because the first time I ever work night is when someone walks in with a gun and robs us. That doesnt worry me, I dont want to work nights. My other job is night work and by the end of my shift doing that job im dead tired.
Working is something I have missed. I dont like customers, but this one isnt too bad. And the other job i dont have to deal with people, so it works out pretty well. I’m hoping I can score extra hours at the bottle shop though, and then Mena can do my other job. And Kate is perfectly fine with that.
I love the location of my work. The only thing I dont like is that where we are, as its on the water, is the strong winds we seem to get everyday. Hopefully when they finish building the rest of the docklands, like that huge ferris wheel thingy, then something will be there to block the winds.
Working here is making me want to be a wine drinker. So many wines are sold everyday. And so many people ask me about them, I have no idea of course, but all I can do is recommend what everyone else is buying and so on. Ive learnt that big names, such as Penfolds or De Bortilli do not sell that much. However Secret Stone, Oyster Bay, Mclears Hill, Four Sisters and a few other little name wines do sell a lot.
